Current news from India: India’s 50-day lockdown & now the second wave of COVID19 has brought economic misery even as Covid cases surge. Indian economy is headed for its first annual contraction in 40 years and the human cost has piled up in the form of hunger, untreated disease & death everywhere. Following the COVID-19-induced economic disruptions, up to 300 million jobs have been lost and 450 million people might be pushed back into poverty in India, all of which will have a hit on consumer income, spending and savings, says a report. What we see today is that more than half of India’s households do not have enough food or savings to survive even for a few weeks of economic shutdown. This most vulnerable group, if they do not get access to engaging in physical labor for a few days, they are left with no option but to stand in queues on the road to wait for themselves and their families to be rescued from hunger. Our organization is leveraging hope to people in this dark time by distribution of food rations to families in distress, mid day meals to children, assisting the persecuted believers who are stranded due to this crisis across India.
We urge the Church communities & leaders to join us in in prayer & financial support in bringing relief to people living in desperate poverty by leveraging food rations through our hope sites in India & Nepal.
